Well, that’s going to be a problem, because Karen has her secrets. And she’s going to keep them that way. As far as she’s concerned, what happened in her past is in her past. It might still haunt her, but it’s nobody’s business but hers.

Well, all that’s true, at least. Karen waits a minute, but then her curiosity – and the urge to deflect – gets the better of her. "Do you watch a lot of people around guns?“
a piercing gaze shoots from the corner of her eyes. a quick response like that is a red flag; most people would be taken back by the question at first, express some level of confusion or curiosity in regards to intent. not all people, of course, so this could end up being nothing. wouldn’t be the first time someone gave an immediate, clean answer to a question she’s posed without it being something more. but she’ll keep it in the back of her mind nonetheless, to see if any other signs of deceit start stacking on top of that.
what comes next is possible deflection, but again, it isn’t extremely uncommon for people to counter her curiosity with a bit of their own. add another tally on the coincident scoreboard, though. a few more & jess will know that this woman isn’t what she seems to be on the surface.

backing up through her steps of deducing her identity, jessica can’t help but to smile. she walks up closer to the other woman, past a few officers that are scampering around, in & out of the apartment designated as the crime scene. neither jess nor the woman here are allowed inside, but they’re permitted just a bit further than the onlookers holding out their iphones & taking vertical videos like jackasses.

pulling a phone from her pocket, jess aims it at the other woman, who’s name is typed in on the search bar, a handful of matching pictures sitting there in the results. “ karen paige. one of the three employees at the now defunct nelson & murdock. “ there’s a bit of pride behind the private investigator’s smile, now.

an observation she decided to make aloud. probing for information, vetting her. people she’ll likely be associating with in the future can’t remain mysteries to her for long. call it the lingering affects of the paranoia kilgrave forced her to adopt. old habits die hard.
