The one blessing to all of this is she hasn’t started yelling yet. He hates yelling. More importantly, he hates being yelled at. Generally, he hates most forms of confrontation, too, but sometimes it’s unavoidable – especially when it comes to getting what you want.

When she takes a swig from her flask as if to make some point, he raises his brows and presses his lips into a thin line; the lack of amusement evident in his expression. He has to bite his tongue so he doesn’t say something he may regret later. An exasperated noise escapes from his mouth as he pinches the bridge of his nose, shaking his head and tosses his hands up in the air again.

❛ …Look. Hammered, not hammered – I already told you – I don’t care about that. What matters to ME is that we exhaust any and all resources to help save my little girl’s life. That’s what I’m paying you for–with pretty much all the money I have, mind you. If that means answering phone calls from famous best friends who own their own radio program that may or may not be relevant to this case while you’re on the clock then so be it. ❜

people love making excuses for themselves. but not jessica jones. acting like an asshole without justification comes naturally to her, & part of the reason she does it is a means of punishment towards herself. stripping away any benefit she may claim from the doubt of others. some sort of … horribly depressing, deep seated emotional masochism. or at least something along those lines, she isn’t really sure herself.

even while forcing herself to suffer, she’s got this selfish edge to her personality. haphazardly barreling through anyone that might try to alleviate a bit of her guilt, or god forbid try to make a case for her being a decent person.

               “ i’ve been serious about it. “

even if she doesn’t act like it. in spite of doing her job from the bottom of a bottle. the chance to make a considerable difference in someone’s life is an opportunity she’ll desperately latch onto. “ trish wasn’t calling about the case. “

words come short, irritated. they’ve been held back, & she’s been deliberating on whether or not to say something since he made it an issue, that much is obvious. “ she wants me to go back, “ eyes roll up towards the sky, a heavy sigh falls, “ to therapy. okay? not that it’s any of your fucking business. i didn’t answer it because it had NOTHING to do with the case & i’m a big fan of running away from my problems. that’s probably the closest thing to a sport i’ll ever take part in. “
